grafika ilustracyjnaThe second edition of the COMMON-FUTURE Congress on Reconstruction of Ukraine, organised by the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce (PUIG), took place on 7-8 October 2024 in Poznań at the Poznań International Fair.

One of the panel discussions was attended by the Director of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute, Prof. Krzysztof Szamałek, and moderated by Slawomir Mazurek, PhD, head of the Department of Raw Materials Policy.

On the second day, one of the panel discussions entitled ‘Prospects for raw material cooperation between Poland and Ukraine. Recommendations of the Polish Geological Institute) was devoted to the partnership between Polish and Ukrainian entities on the Ukrainian raw materials market.

This panel discussion was attended by:

  • Prof. Krzysztof Szamałek – Director of the PGI-NRI,
  • Jacek Piechota – President of the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce,
  • Dariusz Szymczycha – First Vice-President of the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce,
  • Leszek Pietraszek – President of Polska Grupa Górnicza S.A.,
  • Bartosz Rożnawski – Vice-President for Production at LW Bogdanka S.A.,
  • Oleksandr Reznyk – COAL ENERGY S.A. development director.

The panel was moderated by Sławomir Mazurek, PhD, head of the Department of Raw Materials Policy at the PGI-NRI.

The panel discussion was preceded by a several-minute introductory presentation in which the Director of the PGI-NRI, Prof. Krzysztof Szamałek, presented the scheme and conditions of the concession process for mineral exploration, prospecting and exploitation in Ukraine, with particular reference to the auction system.

The panel discussions addressed the following issues:

  • Ukraine's mineral resource potential,
  • Poland-Ukraine trade in raw materials,
  • Polish coal companies' plans for the Ukrainian market,
  • the importance of partnerships between Polish and Ukrainian companies in working together in Ukraine,
  • the role and importance of the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce for the functioning of Polish business in Ukraine,
  • support offered by the PGI-NRI in the area of geological and mining assets for Polish entrepreneurs intending to invest in the Ukrainian raw materials market.

The panel discussion was of great interest and attracted a considerable audience, which not only sat down but also – standing up – listened to the lively discussion.
