The Geospatial World Forum 2024, entitled Geospatial transition: powering the world economy, was held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on May 13-16, 2024. The Polish Geological Institute-NRI was represented by two participants from the Department of Compositional and Economic Geology: dr Katarzyna Derkowska and mgr inż. Anna Januszewska.
The Geospatial World Forum (GWF) is an annual gathering of geospatial professionals and leaders representing public policy, national mapping agencies, private sector companies, the space industry, multilateral and development organisations, scientific and academic institutions and users of government enterprises and citizen surveys.

Dr Katarzyna Derkowska and mgr inż. Anna Januszewska of PGI-NRI, accompanied by specialists from around the world, presented a talk entitled "Countrywide programme for circular economy in Poland - historical mining heaps assessment results and perspectives", with reference to one of the pillars of the ESG session entitled "Monitoring and disclosing resource utilisation, waste and negative impact generation on environment".

In their presentation, the speakers emphasised the importance of a wide-ranging project to inventory post-mining and metallurgical dumps in a social, economic and environmental context.

Focused on geospatial issues, the conference was also a good opportunity to make numerous business contacts and learn about the latest trends in working with satellite data and the possibility of acquiring and processing spatial data.
