New version of the CBDG Boreholes app
The Boreholes subsystem of the Central Geological Database (CBDG) is one of the most important digital resources of PGI-NRI. It stores information on drilling performed in Poland from the end of the 19th century to the present.
Important discovery of a Permian amphibian
The important discovery was made by a research team as part of a National Science Centre project led by the Polish Geological Institute-NRI. During work in an active red sandstone quarry near Nowa Ruda, foot and tail prints of an amphibian from 300 million years ago were found. The results were published in the journal Biology Letters.
Employees of the Upper Silesian Branch of PGI-NRI on a project visit to Spain
On May 7-10, 2024, employees of the Upper Silesian Branch of PGI-NRI in Sosnowiec stayed in Oviedo, Spain, where they took part in a meeting of REM project partners and the European Coal in Transition workshops: Rising like a phoenix, organised by EURACOAL and the European Research Executive Agency (REA).
Madrid meeting of experts on ocean floor exploration and polymetallic minerals
On 6-7 of May 2024, a meeting took place at the headquarters of the Institute of Geology and Mining in Madrid (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España), in its role as the Spanish Geological Survey, between representatives of a team dedicated to the exploration of the ocean floor and the identification and recognition of polymetallic minerals, including primarily hydrothermal systems and associated massive sulphides, as well as cobalt-bearing intrusions occurring on seamounts and polymetallic concretions from abyssal plains.
